Project : Kinnar Gaatha – Prem Ki BhashaCommissioned : 2021Client : Yellow Sun Creations Pvt. Ltd.A landscape of TrialsSynopsis: A series of six illustrations conceived and presented as playing cards. Kinnar Gaatha is a documentary on the victorious attempt in 2015 by the Trans community in hosting an independent camp, and seeking recognition at the biggest Hindu religious congregation known as Maha Kumbh Mela. As part of the project, I was commissioned by film maker Tanuja Shankar to respond to the turbulent journey of this community since Vedic times (approx. 4th century AD). The illustrations map the internal landscape of the Transgender character Shikhandi from the Indian Epic Mahabharata, in the process commenting on the hardships endured by the community at the hands of the heteronormative religious practices in India.
