Graduating from the two dimensional into the sculptural space, Dwellings form a series of explorations on the act of taking up space. Through making and thinking about these ad-hoc assemblages, the intent was to reflect on the very practice of dwelling. The final pieces were temporary as most of cardboard fragments were precariously balanced on one another. The impermanence of the physical sculpture was another important aspect for me when making the work. I wanted to renegotiate the intersections of 2D, 3D and the in-between space. Another significant aspect of these assemblages is that the forms are derived from familiar and everyday scenes/objects.
