ABSTRACTS

The materials and techniques with which a visual is created is intrinsic to understanding my work. When looking at abstraction, I primarily focus on the emotional responses generated by the materials, the colours, the consistency of paint and the feel of certain textures created on the surface. My ever growing body of abstracts is about the mood and psychological impact generated by this process of painting, such that each stage of the creation is clearly visible in the final piece. Here as well, mark making, directional layering of paints, textures and inclusion of mixed media play an important role in bringing together a tactile response. It is both a way for me to think as well as make sense of the inner landscape. In these abstract pieces one is invited to closely look at painting as the art form in itself, separate from another subject matter.
